Idiopathic scoliosis as a multifactorial disease: systematic review of current literature

Objective. To analyze the current literature dedicated to etiopathogenesis and development of idiopathic scoliosis. Material Methods. The analysis includes studies on etiological factors search was carried out eLibrary, PubMed Google Scholar databases. review research experimental studies, as well systematic reviews meta-analyses. exclusion criterion is a theoretical work without practical research/experiment confirm theory. depth 30 years. Results. Out 456 papers topic, 153 were selected meeting inclusion/exclusion criteria. main theories occurrence scoliosis are identified: genetic, neurogenic, theory bone muscle tissue defects, biomechanical, hormonal, evolutionary, environmental lifestyle influences. Conclusions. term “idiopathic scoliosis” combines number diseases with different etiopathogenetic mechanisms development. Idiopathic has polygenic inheritance. Different genes responsible for its in populations, progression triggered by various epigenetic factors. Bone pathology central nervous system, biomechanical disturbances, hormonal biochemical abnormalities may play dominant role some cases
